Ducati Lock Out Top Four as Official Test Concludes at Phillip Island

WorldSBK By February 17, 2026

The final day of Official Testing has wrapped up at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, marking one of the only opportunities for the 2026 grid to complete meaningful dry running ahead of the season opener on 20 to 22 February.

With limited dry track time available during pre-season preparations, the two-day test proved crucial for teams to evaluate new components and refine their 2026 packages. Phillip Island remains one of the most unique circuits on the calendar, defined by its high-speed and flowing layout that place equal demand on bike and rider commitment.

Familiar Names at the Front

Much like Day 1, the pace at the top was controlled by Ducati machinery. Nicolò Bulega, Axel Bassani and Sam Lowes were consistently inside the leading positions across the four two-hour sessions, establishing themselves as early reference points for the 2026 campaign.

With two of the championship’s biggest names no longer on the grid, the spotlight has intensified. Toprak Razgatlioglu has made the move to the MotoGP paddock alongside Jack Miller, while Jonathan Rea has stepped away from full-time competition to take on a test rider role with Honda World Superbikes. The natural question emerging from the paddock is clear: who can challenge Bulega in 2026?

Bulega Breaks Into the 1’28s

On Tuesday morning in FP3, Bulega became the first rider to dip into the 1’28 bracket, taking advantage of optimal track conditions despite gusty winds around the circuit. His pace proved untouchable across the entirety of the test, as he remained the only rider to record laps in the 1’28s across both sessions today.

The final session delivered a late push. Bassani controlled much of early closing stages, holding the top position with just 30 minutes remaining and separated from Bulega by a mere 0.011 seconds. However, Bulega responded emphatically, stringing together consecutive fast laps in the final 20 minutes to reclaim P1 and underline his authority at the front.

Independent Riders Shine in Ducati Sweep

It was the Independent Ducati riders who completed the statement performance. Lowes secured second fastest overall on Tuesday, followed by Lorenzo Baldassarri and Yari Montella, locking out the top four positions on the combined timesheets for Ducati. Bassani ultimately completed the test fifth overall.

With pre-season testing now complete, Ducati head into the opening round with momentum firmly on their side, having delivered a commanding display across both days at Phillip Island.

[From WorldSBK] TOUGH DAY FOR HONDA: Dixon ruled out of the Australian Round

Wildcard entrant Ryan Vickers (Honda HRC) was the lead Honda rider on Day 2 as he set a late 1’30.446s to move into 18th place overall, finishing one place ahead of teammate Tetsuta Nagashima. The Japanese rider improved his time compared to this morning as he set a 1’30.513s, putting him in 19th place. Jake Dixon (Honda HRC) did not take part in the final test session, nor will he compete for Honda in Australia. He crashed at the start of Tuesday morning’s first session and he suffered a fractured wrist and elbow contusion, with the #96 declared unfit following a medical check after his Turn 11 crash.
