Australia will have a full-time representative in the 2015 Supersport World Championship, with NSW Central Coast rider Glenn Scott to campaign an AARK Racing-entered Honda CBR600RR.

Scott will make his championship debut at Phillip Island’s Swann-backed opening round on February 22, with the 23-year-old thrilled to be plying his trade on the international stage.

“This is a massive opportunity that Andy (Offer) from AARK Racing has put in front of me and I can’t thank him enough. To think I’ll be lining up on the world stage is a dream come true and I honestly can’t wait to get on the CBR600RR at the Island. I’m glad the season starts in Phillip Island at a track I know, as the calendar goes to many new circuits for me.”

said Scott. 

“It’s going to be tough but that’s what to expect on the world stage. I have a lot of experience now after many years of racing and I feel this opportunity has come at the perfect time.

“I raced a supersport bike in Australia for a few years, so it won’t be completely foreign to me — and after riding a 1000cc superbike for the last few years I’ll be used to the speed of a Supersport World Championship bike.”

Scott will ride the CBR600RR for the first time at the official world superbike and supersport test at Phillip Island on February 16-17, and then three days later the real business of competition will begin with practice and qualifying ahead of the world supersport race on February 22.

“A couple of days testing will be a massive help for me to get comfortable with the bike and team and help find a setting for the race.  I’m really grabbing this opportunity with both hands and going to give it everything I’ve got to succeed.”

said Scott.

Scott began motorcycle racing at the age of six, and was a prolific winner in the dirt track ranks before turning to road racing with immediate success: he won the Australian 125 GP title as a 15-year-old in 2007.

He then concentrated on the cut-throat Spanish scene in 2008 and 2009 before returning to Australia, where he has competed in the supersport and superbike ranks over the last five years in a privateer capacity.

He was fourth in the 2012 Australian Supersport Championship, sixth in the 2013 Australian Superbike Championship, and sixth in last year’s AFX-Superbike Championship.

In late 2012, he also made a name for himself when he won ‘The Ultimate Rider’ television program against a field of other talented motorcycle racers and took home a $20,000 cash price for first place.

AARK Racing was a staple in local road racing for many years, and in 2012 won the Australian supersport title with Mitchell Carr. A year later, Carr and AARK joined the world supersport scene and, although that partnership eventually dissolved, AARK remains committed to displaying the wares of some of Australia’s top road racing talent.

“This is a great result for us, to be able to obtain the services of the rider we were seeking initially, and getting Glenn to commit to the full season,”

said AARK principal Andy Offer.

“Glenn has shown that he is able to run with front running riders of the Superbike class in Australia, and we feel that with this experience he will be able to run with the world supersport riders if we can supply him with the equipment he needs.”

The last Australian to complete a full world supersport season was Broc Parkes, who finished fifth in 2012. Three locals have won the world title: Andrew Pitt (2001/2008), Chris Vermeulen (2003) and Karl Muggeridge (2004).

World superbikes at Phillip Island is a three-day event (February 20-22), kicking off Friday morning with racing till Sunday late, featuring world championship classes of World Superbike and World Supersport and a host of national support classes include Superbike,  Supersport and Moto3/ 125GP.
