Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit are thrilled to announce their partnership with Melbourne young-gun rider, Tom Bramich.
The reigning Australian Supersport 300 champion is set to make his debut in the European-based FIM World Supersport 300 Championship with Carl Cox-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki in 2019.
Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit are pleased to again support an Australian rider as they launch their international racing career, previously supporting fellow Australian riders Olly Simpson and Matt Barton.
“It’s great to be able to back a rider like Tom, he has had great success in Australia, and we are looking forward to see what he can achieve on the world stage.”
Said Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit General Manager, David Bennett.
Bramich has had a long-running connection with the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, first taking to the 4.445km circuit as a 15-year-old in 2012, competing in numerous local championships for the following seven years. Winning the Australian Moto3/125GP championship in 2015 and the Supersport 300 Championship last year.
“I remember the first time I rode at Phillip Island like it was yesterday; I was on a 150cc Junior bike and I can still remember rolling off the throttle just after the start finish line because all I could see was the ocean! Since then I’ve enjoyed Phillip Island on many different bikes, including modern and historic bikes over the past years.”
Said Bramich
The now 22-year-old is ready to take it to the next level.
“I’m very eager to start the 2019 World Supersport 300 Championship this weekend in Aragon. It’s my first time racing full-time in Europe, and I’m very much looking forward to the whole experience. I’m under no illusion of how difficult it’s going to be racing against the best riders and teams in the world.”
Said Bramich.
The Aussie has completed a series of pre-season tests throughout Europe in recent weeks as he prepares for the year ahead, getting comfortable with new tracks, a new team and his new Kawasaki Ninja 400. Taking to Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, Spain’s Aragon circuit, Circuito de Jerez Angel Nieto and Algarve International Circuit in Portimao gaining valuable experience along the way.
“It was great to gel with the bike and team over the 8 days, learning the 4 new tracks. It’s very hard to know where we are at right now as the rules are constantly changing and are different to last year. At this point I’ve been gauging myself against my team mates, and so far, I think we’ve done a good job.”
Said Bramich.
The new format for the WorldSBK feeder class will give young riders more opportunities to shine, with Bramich hopeful this will provide him a pathway to one day race on home soil in an international class.
“Phillip Island is my favourite track, and I really hope I can ride there in an international series one day soon!”
Concluded Bramich.
The 2019 FIM World Supersport 300 Championship will kick off this weekend in Aragon, April 5-7.
