We’re set for an Island Scorcher when the world’s leading production bike riders kick off the 2016 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship, Yamaha Finance round today at Australia’s thrilling Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit.

With fine weather forecast all weekend long, we’re ready for action with Kawasaki’s world champ, Jonathan Rea, Ducati’s Chaz Davies, Honda’s former MotoGP champ, Nicky Hayden, highly credentialed Alex de Angelis on the Aprilia and MV Agusta’s Leon Camier heading the entry list. 

Sydney’s Josh Brookes leads the local line-up, racing his new Milwaukee BMW; backed by Australian superbike champion Brisbane’s Mike Jones running the Troy Bayliss backed Ducati as a world supers wildcard, and seven Aussies in world supersport.

With WorldSBK practice and qualifying Friday, Superpole qualifying and race one for WorldSBK Saturday, and race two for Sunday, the event is promising nearly 20% more on-track action.

Also on the agenda will be world supersport boys and four national categories with Australian superbike, Australian supersport, Moto3/125GP and Historics ready for a Phillip Island battle royale.

Tickets are available at www.ticketek.com.au or at the gate with all children 15 and under, accompanied by a paying adult, free.   For the best deal, go for an adult three-day pass at $150, or alternatively Sunday only  for an adult is $90, Saturday only $70 and Friday only $40.

Gates open at 8am Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Need a bed for your head?  With the weather so great, try on-circuit camping, where kids 15 and under, accompanied by a paying adult, are gratis.   The camping ground is situated above Southern Loop with views over Bass Strait and the circuit.

Camp for $110 for up to four nights (Thursday to Sunday) with 24 hour access to the campground from 9am Thursday through to Monday.

As a first, the circuit’s SODI go-karts will be operational for the entire meet on the circuit’s replica GP Paddock.  Enter the Super-Karter of the Year competition, and be one of the top 15 times over the two days, and you will be in the Saturday night 6.30pm final against stars like Wayne Maxwell, Glenn Allerton and veteran Michael Dowso.

WorldSBK practice commences at 10:15am Friday, with the two WorldSBK races at 3:00pm Saturday and Sunday and WorldSSP at 1.30pm Sunday.
